Although picp recommend 3.0.40 as the minimum firmware, winpsp (which is 
based on picp) claims that  3.0.6 onwards will do fine. I don't think 
I've implemented anything in a different way than winpsp, but I didn't 
check enough to be sure.

I've developed on 3.1.0, though, and didn't test it on other firmwares.

3.1.1 seems to be available now from microchip.
