Well, you might also consider picp (http://www.cosmodog.com/pic), so you 
can tell him you've seen (at least) two :-)

I'm not directly related to picp, but I've been working on some changes 
in order to support some parts (18F* mostly) and to add some missing 
functionality. With my patches, it's able to read eeprom/id locations 
and some other tricks.

I'm currently a bit busy, working on other projects, but I plan to 
finish some pending stuff for it in the next few days. I've got at least 
one bug report I want to take a serious look, but it's working quite ok. 
I can send my patch if anyone has trouble getting it (the URL was posted 
on an email a time ago and some people complained not being able to 
reach it).
