Subject: programing 18F parts?

I am struggling with programming my 18F458 and I'm wondering what other
people use.

What's a good reliable way to program the part?  Should I get a picstart?

I've been trying to use brocolli and odessey and the work, sort of, but
most times they won't program the config bytes and I can't read back.

I think I need a reliable commercial solution (sad to say).
