Subject: UMAX 3400 again
From: Eduardo M. A. M. Mendes

Hello

I managed to get my UMAX 3400 working in an old Mandrake 8.1 but then I
decided to upgrade to Redhat 8.0 (and of course umax 3400 is now as good as
nothing). I have tried all I could remember but nothing seems to work.

a) sane-find-scanner

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure
that
  # you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x1606 [UMAX], product=0x0060 [USB SCANNER]) at
libusb:001:003
found USB scanner (vendor=0x8086, product=0x0431) at libusb:001:004
  # A USB device was detected. This program can't be sure if it's really
  # a scanner. If it is your scanner, it may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports can't
be
  # detected by this program.

It seems ok, doesn't it?

b) plustek.conf

# The USB section:
# each device needs at least two lines:
# - [usb] vendor-ID and product-ID
# - device devicename
# i.e. for Plustek (0x07B3) UT12/16/24 (0x0017)
[usb] 0x1606 0x0060
device /dev/usb/scanner0

parport line is commented.

c) I am running sane-1.0.9 with no modfications, patches or anything.

d) scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

And it goes on and on ....

What am I doing wrong again?

Many thanks
