Hi,
I just killed my Epson 1260U scanner using Sane + Plustek. :-)
...and I used that opportunity to browse through this
mailinglist's archive, and I learned that I wasn't the only one
with that problem. In fact, the problem seems to be well known,
since there was a detailed description + how to repair hints of
8 Dec 2002
(http://www.linuxhacker.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi?3:msp:1808:fhgoggfpgjggmbnogdap).
Oh well.
How about putting a big, red, warning sign just right in that
'supported scanners' table with a pointer - or even better - a
copy of this thread? It seems like the problem could be avoided
easily. It seems like an already damaged scanner is fairly easy
to repair. I think this information should be made easier
accessible, since it may be useful to several users.
It is sad that in all the research I did before buying that
scanner, I never found any warnings that it could actually be
damaged by sane or this backend. There were lots of warnings for
other models, though...
I understand that this is entirely Epson's fault, not yours. No
such device should possibly be damaged by software. But it
happens, and it can't be helped. So please do put a warning
there. Before it happens to even more people. Do it now.
Thank you.
