I'm trying to utilize Epson's 1260 flatbed USB scanner and have tried in
vain to install the plustek-module to my new Microtel 1.67GHz PC with
MDK9.0 pre-installed. . Not sure what the problem is but sane version
1.0.8 was pre-installed with the original installation. (I tired at one
point to uninstall sane version 1.0.8 but was unable due to
dependencies cited by MDK9.0.) (kernel version is 2.4.19-16mdk)
I bought this particular model because I wanted something easy to
configure. I saw in sane's database that it was listed as "stable" and
that it was directly supported by the manufacturer and even went so far
as to list a site: http://www.epkowa.co.jp/english/linux_e/linux.html
for more info but I've yet to reach the above site. I was however
successfull in reaching: http://www.gjaeger.de/scanner/plustek.html and
have since downloaded and tried to install several versions of
plustek-module and sane.
I first tried to install plustek-module version 0.49 but it said that my
kernel was too old. I then went to Mandrake.com's updates site and
downloaded rpms for the kernel and sources and upgraded from 2.4.19-16
to 2.4.19-32. At that point, I found that I was able to compile the
drivers but yet still unable to load them into the kernel.
Since upgrading to the new kernel, I found that other stuff no longer
worked right, (the printer for one thing), so I just started over and
re-installed MDK9.0 from the install disk, (MDK9.0), provided by the PC
manufacturer and then used their updates CD to get back to where I was
from the start and then downloaded sane version 1.0.11 and then went
back and tried version 0.42-9 of the plustek-module.
I've since tried a number of times to install the 0.45-5 version
plustek-module but have been unsucessfull in getting it to compile
without errors.
I now assume that this endevor may be a bit above and beyond my
capability and may be too complicated of an issue for anyone to help me
with but would appreaciate any attempts or advise anyone would like to
offer.
Many thanks in advance,
terry
