I've been trying to tune scans from my LiDE 20. I've had limited
success and wondered if someone here might be able to shed some helping
light on the situation. I have an older SnapScan 1212u that I've been
happy with for some time. I've put scans of the same color wheel (cups
test page) from both the older SnapScan and the newer LiDE scanners that
illustrated the difference up on my web site for review:

In comparing the scans with the original, the SnapScan's colors are much
closer to the original.
Additionally, while scanning with the LiDE 20 using The Gimp and Xsane,
I Xsane periodically locks. This only happens with the LiDE scanner.
I'm attaching a backtrace of the incident from within Gimp. It appears
that the problem happens when the backend (plustek) tries to write to
the USB subsystem. So far, it's been necessary to disconnect and
reconnect the LiDE scanner from the USB bus when this occurs.
