First the particulars...
Redhat 9 on an Intel PII board
using Redhat's kernel-2.4.20-13.9
using Redhat's sane-frontends-1.0.9-2
using sane-backends-1.0.9-5
using sane-backends-devel (no /backend directory, btw)
printer port setup to use EPP
built plustek-module-0 42 9
- it did not automatically create /dev/par* entries, they had to be
entered manually
- it does not automatically load the drivers after reboot, had to be
done manually (/sbin/modprobe /dev/pt drv
when using xsane the grayscale works as expected and stops the scanner
where indicated by prescan dialog
now if the scanning mode is switched to binary the results are like the
Star Wars introduction with the text "tilted" back. Also the overall
length is 2/3 the orignal with the rest being black. Finally the head
goes beyond the end boundary.
in short grayscale works, binary (b/w) does not
if you need any more information just ask... if test are required, I can
handle a walkthrough.
