Yup! I got the scanner working again without compiling the kernel. I installed the
backend and driver in my home directory as instructed by one of the articles from the
plustek site. Yast however puts xsane where it wants too. And it works anyway. I'm glad
I wrote down that modprobe pt_drv gets added to etc/init.d/boot.local or I'd be loading
the driver from a terminal every time I wanted it. Thanks again it nice to have the
scanner back! JY
