	A solution, and missing details.

I forgot mentioning it's running the stock Debian linux
2.4.22-powerpc kernel.

That was a 1.0.13 I compiled from CVS before it was released,
but that was another box if very similarly configured.

Now it has worked, for I have upgraded libsane and sane-utils
to 1.0.14 from Debian testing. Interestingly, sane itself is still
1.0.12 there...

	Definetly yes.

	Two nasty details yet:

1) Visualisation doesn't work properly. It does get an image, but
when it finishes constructing it on screen it refreshs, and the
refresh makes it truly bad, very grained, even if some parts of the
image remain good.

Would a screenshot of this help?

2) Sometimes -- haven't been able to discern a pattern yet --
digitalisation will make some ugly if not too loud noises when the
lamp reaches the end of the scan bed, just before starting to return
to its rest position.
