Why should this be important?
The kernel-configuration is not important. Try load ppdev and then start
the backend as root-user, send us the output of:
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK_PP=20 ; scanimage -L

Also make sure, that in dll.conf (located in /etc/sane.d
or /usr/local/etc/sane.d) plustek_pp is w/o comment character (which is #).
Also check plustek_pp.conf for the correct settings - see man sane_plustek_pp
