Subject: Help installing?

I just got the plustek module and most recent sane backend and frontend
file.
I made the backend.
The frontend won't finish the "./configure" script though.
It says it needs sane to be installed for it to work.
Doesn't it mean the backends?
Am I missing something I need?
urgh.....I hate having to compile things myself.
I unpacked the plustek module, sane frontends and sane backends archives
into a "sane" directory.
