Subject: Kernel 2.4 and ASIC96001/3 models

Hi list,

it seems, that the IEEE1284 autodetection of parport devices
will cause some trouble on ASIC96001/3 based models
like OP4830, OP9630 and so on. This module is part of
the new kernel 2.4 and should be disabled in the kernel
configuration.

The autodetection seems to cause a hangup on the ASICs
so the driver can't talk to these scanners anymore.

I'm not sure if this also causes problems with newer devices
like the 9636T and the PT12.
