Subject: Problems under mandrake 8.0

I am having problems installing the plustek driver under mandrake 8.0

My sane version is 1.0.4 and was removed and reloaded via the rpm from the
mandrake cdrom.
I downloaded plustek-module-0_39_3.tar.gz into the tmp directory. I could
not find anything resembling the ~/sane-1.0.X/backend directory so I untared
the file into tmp.

make and make install did not generate any errors but numerous warnings, most
conerned missing eof's and extra symbols in endif's

I entered the appropriate lines for my scanner (9636T) into mdules.conf.
I did make load again no errors.
scanimage -L does not detect any scanners but does poll my printer, (Xerox C8
working properly)

Following KJSisson's notes,
ls -al /dev/pt_drv gives: crw--r--r-- 1 root root 40, 0 Jun 22 0946
/dev/pt_drv

pt_drv.o is in /lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/misc and /lib/modules/misc

depmod -a gives *** Unresolved symbols in
/lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/misc/pt_drv.o

modules.dep is an empty file.

modprobe parport_pc gives nothing just returns to command prompt.

modprobe pt_drv gives:

/lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/misc/pt_drv.o: init_module: Success
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/misc/pt_drv.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/misc/pt_drv.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.3-20mdk/misc/pt_drv.o: insmod pt_drv failed

I have tried setting modules conf to port 0x278 and 0x378, no difference on
either port.

As this is the last issue I need to resolve before relegating windows to
games only, I would appreciate any assistance any one can give.

Thanks in advance;

		Pat Gilliland.
