It still wouldn't matter in this case. This is like using a whole other binary to compile your files. Editing Arch.rules is probably the right idea.
But on a whole different point, it probably would make everybody's life alot easier if we moved to a new build system. May I recommend the kernel config from 2.4 (not the new one from 2.5). Other projects have been using this with lots of success, and it comes with an easy to use curses GUI (menuconfig).
If anyone wants to split the duties with me, we can get this done in a quick amount of time... :)
