Ever since I changed my motherboard from an AOpen AX6BC (440BX Intel) to the K7S5A (SIS735), my scanner is not working properly. It scans, but the image is all jumbled up. Is there a fix? I'm running 1.06 of sane and version 0.40 of the backend I think.

Well, that bad behaviour is a known issue, but can't be solved by the driver
:-(
The problem is, that if the driver has not enough computing time, it is not
able to follow the scanners' data stream. It also has no possibility with
that old ASIC inside the 4831 to fix this...
The ASIC in general is not suitable for multi-tasking OS (that's why Plustek
offers NO drivers for NT/2000/XP)
I'd say, that the problem is the new SIS chipset. Maybe the stuff works better
after a BIOS upgrade or after the parport module supports this chipset in
a better way it now does (initialization !).
You might play around with different settings of the parallelport in your
BIOS...

Sorry, that's all

You mean this is a known issue with this particular motherboard?

I spent days trying to figure out the problem. I tried different modes, SPP/ECP/EPP 1.7/1.9 etc. Nothing. So it's a problem with the kernel then? I'm using 2.4.17 at the moment. The scanner still works great in Win98SE. I just hate having to boot into windows to do a quick scan.

I guess it's about time to get a new scanner. The Plustek is a pretty old scanner now. This'll give me a good reason to get a new USB scanner. Anyone else have a ECS K7S5A? What scanner are you using?

No - it's a known issue with badly configured chipsets...

I'm using those various Plustek scanners, that Plustek has sent
me, currently the USB ones (UT16 or UT24)...
Good devices, as long as you don't expect too much...
