Sorry if this has already been brought up a thousand times... I didn't
see archives anywhere on linuxhacker.org -

Anyway, I'm trying to get a Plustek 4800P working through SANE, and I'm
pulling my hair out - was hoping somebody could give some advice.

I -thought- I followed all the steps correctly, but when I get to the
make-load, it gives me this:

/sbin/modprobe pt_drv || exit 1
sh: modprobe: command not found
modprobe: pre-install pt_drv failed
modprobe: insmod pt_drv failed
make: *** [load] Error 1

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Hi,

the archives can be found at:
http://www.linuxhacker.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm-cgi/3

Did you perform the make load step as root user???
If yes, then have you installed the mod-utils???
That's normally all! The Makefile could not find the
modprobe utility...

Hope this helps

Actually it didn't get me completely going, but it got me closer - the
modprobe error came from /sbin not being in my path (apparantly even
though I could run /sbin/modprobe manually, the install script wasn't so
smart) - and then, oddly enough, I had to run "make install" 3 times,
but on the 3rd time it took.
I can do a "scanimage -L" and it detects the scanner (as the wrong
model, it shows it as a 6000 and it's a 4800, but at least it detects
it)
But - as soon as I run scanimage without the -L switch, it complains
that there is no scanner. xscanimage gives the same result. Is there
something else I missed? The install docs that come with the plustek
drivers seem to assume that once you've done a successful "scanimage -L"
than all is clear, but that doesn't appear to be the case on my PC...
Any ideas?
