From: Martin A Hansen ####@####.#### Date: 27 Jul 2000 14:22:03 -0000 Message-Id: <Pine.LNX.4.21.0007271559360.387-100000@t4900ct.molbio.ku.dk> hi i have tried in vain to install my plustek 96000p parport scanner under debian 2.2. the plustek-howto is not up to date i think, there are several mismatches in it (and the howto sais it only for 0.35). i have tried to download sane 1.01 and unpack it to /usr/local/sane, and then untar the plustek-sane driver to the same dir (the howto mentions that you should repack the plustek-sane driver, but i find that its packed ok ?!?). then i checked the makefiles and compiled as discribed in the howto. but it ends up in a modprobe error: wintermute:/usr/local/sane-1.0.1/backend/plustek_driver# make -f Makefile load /sbin/modprobe pt_drv || exit 1 modprobe: Can't locate module pt_drv make: *** [load] Error 1 now what did i miss? maybe my kernel is bad? i have lp and parport loaded as modules, do i miss anything? and why cant i use the precompiled debian packages? best regards martin | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I think this should help. It's a step by step description. There's currently one fault - don't use the legal parameter! If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). I think the problem is your configuration file... As you are using SuSE, I also expect, that you have two installations on your box, that might interfere...
