I think that given the right balance of j/kvm and jit java would be awesome.
I don't know about the palm os concept, but I do a *lot* of heavy Java
development via Linux/Java and would love it if I could run the Java/Linux
combo on my handheld :-))

Certainly *is* worth a try.
