Hi,

I have just noticed that Sun allows redistributing the binaries for the
JDK and JRE without requiring any sort of royalties as long as they
themselves are not already doing it and it is shared for free.

Has anyone else considered rebuilding Java on a Linux based PDA using
MicroWindows or nano-x?

I'm considering doing it for the VTECH Helio, and am looking forward to
sharing with anyone that is interested,

Robert

According to the SUN FAQ at:
http://java.sun.com/nav/business/license-faq.html

May I redistribute the binaries derived from the source?

You may redistribute the ports that you derive from the source code,
provided that they are not currently being redistributed already by Sun
(Win32, Linux, and SPARC/Solaris), and they are not bundled with a
product. Thus, you may make the binaries available widely on the
World-Wide Web, for example. We do require that there is no charge for
them, the notices are passed on, and the Sun's binary code license is
passed on and adhered to.

If I am porting Java to another platform, what parts am I allowed to
share with other developers?

You may post the "diffs" of the source code on the web as long as they
are from the platform dependent part, ONLY and are required for testing
and/or implementing the port.
