Hi,
Has anyone been looking at the GnuStep port to MicroWindows?
Since Apple is playing for the seat as the most widely used distro in the world
of Unix, I am wondering if there has been more thought about converting the
GnuStep library from X11 to Nano-X.
Since there is so much that is currently being ported from Linux to Mac OS/X,
I am can only expect the tide to start going back out again eventually. Once
things are flowing our way again, we should start seeing fresh ideas surfacing,
especially in the realm of PDAs.
My angle of course is to get a production quality (free) GUI builder / IDE
working on Linux that would allow building Next/Open/GnuStep applications for
PDAs that would be source compatible with the new NextStep based Mac OS/X.
At first I groaned after reading that it was based so much on Objective C.
After taking a closer look at it, the idea of C code with classes and the
ability to do Java type introspection was too good to give up.
So, before I start running around like Chicken Little, I'll need some
encouragement, and be able to honestly say that I am convinced that if built,
there would be enough developers using it to make the effort worthwhile.
Anyways, if anyone is interested, please post here so that I can quote you so it
looks more real instead of pre-marketing hype.
Rob
