Hi,

This is still kind of vapourware, but wxWindows (www.wxwindows.org) is giving
birth to a new port, wxWindows for X11. wxWindows is a full-blown application
framework with a lot of nice widgets and the new port makes use of 'wxUniversal',
which is a generic set of widgets implemented using low-level wxWindows drawing
primitives. The wxX11 port is looking pretty good after only 3 weeks work.

Previously I did a partial port of wxWindows to the MicroWindows WIN32 API,
but figured that a Nano-X API port would be more useful since multiple executables
can be run simultaneously. So 50% of the intention with wxX11 was to port it to
Nano-X. It now compiles and links under Nano-X using some extra Xlib compatibility
functions and macros plus a small number of #ifdefs in the main wxX11 code. However
it now needs debugging to get samples to actually run.

I suspect it won't take too long to get it working, so this message is for any brave souls who
want to help out by downloading wxWindows from CVS and following the instructions
in docs/x11.

Executables are in the order of 1 MB (if statically linked against wxWin) and above so this
isn't exactly 'nano', but the overhead becomes less obvious as the app gets more complex.
Also I expect wxX11 to be used with Tiny-X. Compared with solutions that involve installing
GTK+ and GDK -- before you even start thinking about a nice C++ framework on top --
the overhead isn't too bad.

Regards,

Julian
