Is this the first crack that anyone has taken at a tiny X-like system?

Also, about the fonts - are they all fixed-width bitmap fonts right now?

	No, David Bell wrote a complete mini-X, known as mini-X.
Nano-X is based on mini-X, but is completely portable and will run on
anything that can read and write a pixel.

No, an alternative project is the W window system, available at
http://www.students.tut.fi/~t150315/

The NanoGUI project's aims are quite a bit more ambitious, but W has the
advantage that it's useable right now.
