Subject: Problem with Canon 670U LIDE
From: David Sterratt ####@####.####
Date: 2 Feb 2008 22:54:46 -0000
Message-Id: <1201992861.20104.13.camel@localhost>

Dear all,

I can't get my Canon 670U LIDE scanner working under the plustek
backend, v. V0.51-12, part of the sane-backends 1.0.18 package
distributed with Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy).

The symptoms are that after plugging in the scanner and running either
xsane or scanimage -L, after a pause there is a worrying grinding noise
from the scanner and the scanning head seems to be stuck at the end of
the scanner away from the hinge of the lid. No scanning is possible. To
turn off the scanner I have to take out the USB socket.

I'm attaching the output obtained from scanimage -L with
export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=12
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=20
(To get past the mail limit on this list, I've chopped the dll messages
that don't apply to the plustek backend.)

The problem actually manifested itself some time ago, and I had more or
less assumed that the scanner was broken, until I tried it under
Windows, where it works.

I seem to recall everything was fine under Linux until I tried scanning
at high resolution one time and got a grinding noise. After that things
seemed not to work, which made me think the scanner was broken. But its
functioning under windows has made me reconsider.

Any help would be much appreciated.

All the best,

David.
