Hello,

I have problems using a scanner "Plustek OpticPro 4831P". If I use
resolutions above 100 dpi (f.e. 200 dpi) horizontal regions of the image are
scrambled. If I try to scan the maximum possible size (A4, 200 dpi) the scanner
produces an awful noise. With resolutions <= 100 dpi the driver works correctly.

My configuration:
Plustek driver: Version 0.44 - Build 10 (17.10.2002) for SANE 1.0.8 and
higher
SuSE 8.1 with SANE 1.0.8.
HP Laserjet 6L and scanner connected to parallel port.

Yours sincerely

Johannes Hennecke

Hi,

try and remove the HP Laserjet and also make sure not to load
ppdev module...

Hello Gerhard,

<< try and remove the HP Laserjet and also make sure not to load
<< ppdev module...

I remove the printer cable (all devices were switched off before) and started
the computer. The module ppdev was not loaded (see list made with "lsmod"
below), but images scanned with higher resolution are still scrambled :(.

Scanning with higher resolution causes much more date to be transferred over
parallel interface. Maybe the data are transferred too fast, so that the data
recognition/sending on parallel port does not work correctly and reads/writes
corrupted data.

Is there a way to modify the plustek driver in that way that the data transfer
is slowed down?

Best regards

Johannes Hennecke

Hi Johannes,

you might try the switch slowIO...

Hello Gehard,

slowIO was already switched on (part of modules.conf):

alias char-major-40	pt_drv
pre-install pt_drv modprobe -k parport
options pt_drv lampoff=180 warmup=15 port=0x378 lOffonEnd=1 mov=0
