When you say "this package" if you mean nano-X: the font rendering
for truetype fonts in nano-X will render accurately any antialiased
font with full accuracy.  Basically, the TTF font library supplies
our font engine with a greyscale rather than black-and-white
bitmap for each character.  The character is then displayed
with the edges using values between white and black for
the effect.

Its up to the .ttf file creator to specify or compute the anti-aliasing
for each character, nano-X doesn't do any of this.
