This is the first release of the project I've been working on for a few
weeks now. I thought you folks might find it interesting and maybe even
useful. I'd really like to hear from anyone who gets it running, or
anyone who has problems for that matter. I'm subscribed to the nanogui
list, and DinX has its own mailing lists too.

name: DinX is not X

version: 0.2.0

homepage: http://dinx.sourceforge.net/

download: http://sourceforge.net/project/filelist.php?form_grp=637

author: Ben Williamson ####@####.####

category: console/graphics

brief: Windowing system, uses Linux framebuffer.

license: MPL with GPL option

description:

DinX is an experimental windowing system that performs clipping and
drawing inside Linux kernel modules. This eliminates much context
switching between clients and the server, and makes the code small, simple
and fast. It is aimed at small systems like Linux handhelds.

The first public release includes draggable windows and a simple image
viewer. All clipping and drawing operations are working properly. The
window server program is under development, to provide a more complete set
of events.

Perhaps there is an opportunity here to combine DinX and Microwindows in
some interesting ways. Microwindows has something that DinX lacks, ie a
well developed window server with a defined protocol, palette management
etc. DinX is strong on drawing and clipping, which IMHO was always the
weak point of the code that came from mini-X. So let me know what you
think.

Cheers,

- Ben.
