: Was all that speed improvement due to shared memory, or was the Nano-X
: protocol part of the problem (round-trip for everything)?

Oh nononononono... The Nano-X protocol used to be a problem,
but there are few requests that require round trip now. That's why
most of the Nano-X api returns void, so that a round trip isn't required.
The Nano-X protocol is very much like X (which is designed quite well)
and buffers drawing requests so they can all be sent at once and
batch executed, without waiting for sending a response to the client, etc.

So the speed improvement was almost all due to shared memory

Regards,

Greg
