I've done a little digging and have some values - these obviously depend on my correct understanding and usage of the tools which I wouldn't bank on just yet...

Using 'mpatrol' I easily relinked the demos applications and concentrated on 'mtest' - very simple application that just puts up a 'hello world' window. Obviously usage depends on which driver and screen size you are using, I have tested using the X11 driver and a 240x320 screen (for no particular reason)

The peak heap usage is 494819 bytes, of which 307200 is allocated in X11_Open (so I think that it can be discounted).

I'll keep digging to find out more.....

If I'm understanding mpatrol's output correctly there are also a number of small memory leaks, which I think we should fix over time. What do other people think about adopting mpatrol (or another checker) as our 'official memory usage checker'?
