You should use the latest version of FLNX .16 from
ftp://ftp.microwindows.org/pub/flnx. That, combined with Microwindows
0.89pre7 has a redesigned keyboard system, so I think that you can get around
your 1 byte limitation.
Kaffe has been somewhat ported, but there is still much AWT work that would
still need to be done to get it cleaned up.
