: How do you specify the transparent color to use in GdDrawImage?

The transparent color is specified by the decoded file, and stored
with the image header structure, rather than passed seperately
to GdDrawImage. Check the decoders to see which support
transparent colors. In general, if they do, so does Microwindows.

:
: Like for a 4bpp Hitachi monochrome display?

The display type doesn't have anything to do with transparent colors.
Keep in mind, though, that palettized displays (like 4bpp) have
to do nearest color searching using the linked-in palette (engine/devpalX.c)
to find the palette index from the color. The transparent color
is always compared directly and not drawn if matched.

Regards,

Greg
