In addition to Aaron's comments, there could be some
issue of hanging in the main loop for too long.  Perhaps
check GrGetNextEvent{Timeout} to see the program
isn't waiting on an internal select() file descriptor and not
handling input when it should be....  This would be apparent
if the system only processes input quickly WHILE the
mouse is being moved, for instance, and then slows to a crawl
when the mouse is stopped.
