Which way are they garbled?

Can you just try displaying a set of smooth primary color(RGB) tint ramps
and see if from that you can discern a disconnect between what nanogui
thinks the mapping is and what the hardware is expecting?

You do have the hardware in direct mode as opposed to palette mode,
and it is expecting the pixel to be rrrr rggg gggb bbbb?

Is it garbled in all colors or just a subset of them?
