Does anyone know of an Integrated Development Environment (IDE - something
similar to MS-Visual C++) with a friendly UI for developing to embedded
Linux? Perhaps a shell application for the GNU Tools. Is there anything that
comes close enough that could be easily adapted?

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,
in the past I had same trouble and I stay much time in web to find
some usable and simple IDEs for Linux Host. At the end I have choice
three products configurables to work with gcc/ld/gdb/...........
for embedded systems like sh-xxx-gcc, i386-xxx-gcc or 68k-xxx-gdb.....
They are all free-source software and you can download they from
relative
web sites.

Code Medic and Code Crusader built a complete IDE environment which
permit you to create a project, write files, compile and debug all using
a graphical interface.
You must have a compatible with gcc rom monitor in you target board.

DDD is a wonderful graphical interface to debug with gdb and is more
powerful of Code Medic and permit you to debug also to assembler level.
You must have a compatible with gcc rom monitor in you target board.

Personally I use Code Crusader to develop and DDD to debug.

Lite site list inherent IDE for Linux :

Sorry for my bad English,
I hope this help you !

Yep. Is called (X)Emacs. There are ports for just about every OS known to
exist. I uses it on Windows NT and Linux. I have even customised the both
versions to support the windows/Borland keys I am so used to.
