I've tried it out and it works well. I've added it to the pre6 tree. Now everyone can see alpha blending without having to run a framebuffer! However, there seems to be a bug in the palette version of the X11 screen driver. The alpha blending doesn't work, and the t1demo.sh starts writing all black pixels... I'm going to check into this tonight. I think that the XAllocColors calls are failing after a certain point...
