KDGKMODE: Invalid argument
From: Mikhail Ivanov ####@####.#### Date: 22 Jun 2001 11:21:14 -0000 Message-Id: <20010622152408.58e74b75.mivanov@lgsoftlab.ru> I have a keyboard problem: when running nano-X I get: KDGKMODE: Invalid argument (followed by "unable to initialise keyboard"). SCANKBD is set to Y in config. The system is Linux in framebuffer mode. If I set NOKBD in config, the server works fine, with no keyboard. Any ideas on how to make the keyboard work are greatly appreciated. -- Sincerely, Mikhail Ivanov

Also, try TTYKBD, its a little less demanding when it tries to open the TTY. Yes, it's in place and is not a link; but it says "Device not configured" when I'm trying to access it, so the problem may be with the device, thanks for the hint. > > Also, try TTYKBD, its a little less demanding when it tries to open the TTY. No "KDGKMODE: Invalid argument" this time, but still "Unable to initialise keyboard" > > Jordan > > > On Friday 22 June 2001 05:24, Mikhail Ivanov mentioned: > > I have a keyboard problem: when running nano-X I get: > > > > KDGKMODE: Invalid argument > > > > (followed by "unable to initialise keyboard"). > > SCANKBD is set to Y in config. I added vga=ask to grub.conf and restarted the linux. I enter 314 to the vga mode question. I enter the command line. I run ./demo2.sh and it's ok. Now I start winodws. I tried running ./demo2.sh or ./bin/nano-X and I get the following error message: KDGKMODE: Invalid argument Cannot initialise keyboard (running ./mouse.sh did not change anything with getting this message). I tried to change ,in config,SCANKBD= Y to SCANKBD= N and TTYKBD = Y (instead of TTYKBD = N) , and performed make. I got the same error. BTW: 1) I am running on RH9 2) fbset -i returns ode "800x600-75" # D: 48.001 MHz, H: 46.876 kHz, V: 75.121 Hz geometry 800 600 800 600 16 timings 20833 96 32 16 4 96 4 rgba 5/11,6/5,5/0,0/0 endmode Frame buffer device information: Name : VESA VGA Address : 0xe0000000 Size : 33554432 Type : PACKED PIXELS Visual : TRUECOLOR XPanStep : 0 YPanStep : 0 YWrapStep : 0 LineLength : 1600 Accelerator : No any idea? KDGKMODE: Invalid argument
From: Giacobbi Giacomo ####@####.#### Date: 30 Nov 2006 16:36:32 +0000 Message-Id: <200611301736.04386.g.giacobbi@maserautomation.it> Hi all, running nano-X I obtain the following error " KDGKMODE: Invalid argument / Cannot initialise keyboard" I built nano-X (version 0.90) without errors using gcc 3.4.1 to run on X server using the config.X11 file. I tried both TTYKBD = Y SCANKBD = N and TTYKBD = N SCANKBD = Y with the same result, and the I saw that if X11=Y is configured doesn't matter what Keyb option is set. Reading a previous (december 2003) discussion about this problem there was an hint to introduce some printf in kbd_x11.c file. I tried but it seems that the code inside kbd_x11.c is not executed (this should explain why the KBD is not initialized), so I guess I have some major problem. For the sake of precision my system is equipped with a Pentium D and run SUSE 10.1, keyboard and mouse through USB. I tried to install microwindows on an embedded ARM9 board and worked fine. Anyone could help me. Thank you very much. -- Giacomo Giacobbi

First, make sure you "make clean; make" or the build may not work properly. The error above is only printed from the drivers/kbd_ttyscan.c file, thus it appears you've got that driver linked and executing somehow. Run VERBOSE=Y and check the link line to be sure you've got the X11 drivers linked. Regards, Greg
