[Fwd: [attn client authors] Multiple AUTHINFOs per session]
From: Herbert Straub ####@####.#### Date: 7 Jan 2003 06:50:11 -0000 Message-Id: <3E1A7628.5040701@aon.at> The original article from news.software.nntp is attached (see below). You can help finding situation with more then one authinfo command per session. All Commands are logged in news.debug (depending on /etc/syslog.conf settings). You can find multiple authinfo commands per session with: $ grep -i "\] authinfo" news.debug | awk '{print $5}' | sort | uniq --count | awk '$1>1{print}' Herbert Straub -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [attn client authors] Multiple AUTHINFOs per session Date: Tue, 7 Jan 2003 01:46:43 +0000 (UTC) From: ####@####.#### (Jeffrey M. Vinocur) Organization: Litech Systems Design Newsgroups: news.software.nntp,news.software.readers Followup-To: news.software.nntp [ note that I've set followups to news.software.nntp ] There is currently discussion on the ietf-nntp mailing list on whether we should permit clients to perform multiple authentications steps per session. That is, after a successful AUTHINFO, should the client be permitted to issue AUTHINFO again. The consensus seems to be that there is no real-world use for this functionality. However, if you have written (or use) a client which issues multiple AUTHINFOs in a single session, or if you've written a server and see clients doing this, we want to hear about it now rather than later. Thus, please respond either here or on ietf-nntp (or via email to me if you prefer). -- Jeffrey M.
