This looks to me like one of the new Plustek devices. But I have
no idea which chipset they use inside. Well first of all we need
to know the chipset, then we can try to tweak the parameters...

I've attached the checkmerlin program, simply unpack and call
./checkm. If your scanner is attached to any other device than
/dev/usbscanner you hae to use
./checkm /dev/yourdevice_node
In the end we should know if we have a Merlin chipset or not.
