Hi there,

I have a Canon D646U ex scanner.
It's a 42 bit, 600x1200 dpi CCD scanner, so I guess it's based on the
LM9832 (as all the Canon's I've seen in the range are LM983x based.

I haven't seen any sane backend that supports this yet, and am wondering
if anyone has made any progress getting it to work?

I'm keen on trying to write some drivers myself, depending on how much
of a mission it is :)
I'm reasonably competent C coder, and have a XP laptop lying around,
with that USB snoopy program going (it seems to work on XP OK.)

How hard would it be to get this CCD scanner going, as opposed to a CIS
one? Is there much more involved?

I may be able to take it back to the shop, and trade it for a LiDE 20,
as that looks to have much better support, although if it took me a few
weeks to put together a driver for the 646, that would be cool, as it
seems to be quite a popular cheap scanner at the moment. (Although the
LiDE 20 looks really nice :) Just not sure if I'll be able to trade it,
and I'm probably to poor to pay the difference anyway :( ).

Oh, also, would I have much luck over on the canonscanner.sf.net list,
or are they moving there effort here?

Cheers,

Tim.
