I have a Canon CanoScan LiDE 30 scanner, and whenever I plug it in to the usb 
port, I get this.  I have tried it with both 2.6.5 and 2.6.7:

Th scanner doesn't work with Window, but I got it to scan with Linux once, so 
I still have hope.
