From: sjonnie ####@####.#### Date: 5 Jul 2002 20:05:32 -0000 Message-Id: <02070521531000.00641@vrijdag> Hello All, After upgrading to kernel 2.4.18 the USB plustek/hpscanner works !!! and produces VERY fine images (thanks !!!!) (kernel 2.4.16 and Sane 1.08 gave, besides the lamp and some initial steppermotor movement, nothing but hard system_lock_ups). There are a few things that worry me : there are high pitch "squeeek" sounds from the steppermoter on initiation/calibration. After that scanning is somewhat like two steps forward ,one step back (the table is almost shaking....) so no smooth movement even at 50 dpi. The return is normal and smooth... Under WinXP these problems do not exist , but who cares.... The lamp does not shut down after scanning (no matter what I put in the plustec.conf ) But that is no real problem. (after unloading the usb-uhci module, it has to go out anyway) Is there by any chance a way of altering "some values" to get this stepper motor working smoothly? sjonnie te Linde lsusb: Language IDs: 0000 Bus 001 Device 002: ID 03f0:0605 Hewlett-Packard Device Descriptor: bLength 18 bDescriptorType 1 bcdUSB 1.10 bDeviceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class bDeviceSubClass 0 bDeviceProtocol 255 bMaxPacketSize0 8 idVendor 0x03f0 Hewlett-Packard idProduct 0x0605 bcdDevice 1.00 iManufacturer 1 iProduct 2 HP ScanJet 2200C iSerial 0 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

I wonder if the calibration is working properly, because the scans from my HP2200C look very underexposed to me, and have to have a big gamma correction which messes up the overall colourspace. > After that scanning is somewhat like two steps forward ,one step back > (the table is almost shaking....) so no smooth movement even at 50 > dpi. Mine does not do this, the scan is smooth. I have kernel 2.4.18-6mdk, (Mandrake 8.2) which found the 2200 as soon as it was plugged in, no problems. I wonder if you are loosing data in the USB transfer so the scanner is forced to rescan? > The lamp does not shut down after scanning (no matter what I put in the > plustec.conf ) The Plustek backend tries twice to turn off the lamp, but fails: [plustek] sane_exit [plustek] Shutdown called (dev->fd=-1, /dev/usb/scanner0) [plustek] Waiting for scanner-ready... Thanks to you i can use ma hp2200c scanner with my mandrake 9.0. (sane 1.0.9 and plustek driver 0.44.10) But i've got a problem : I've got some verticale lines (halftone) on the image i scan.. It seems that previous realease were better . And when i launch Xsane it takes about 25 sec before detecting the device. Any advice ? Can you tell me which version was better? What about the 25s? When do they occur? You might play around with the warmup option in plustek.conf file... Gerhard On Samstag, 7. I noted the problem with the 2200c having lines in the scans, and I've been fiddling with mine with some success. Attached to this email is a copy of my plustek.conf file. First, go into /usr/local/etc/sane.d, locate your plustek.conf file and put it somewhere SAFE (like /home or /root). Then, take the email attachment and put it in /usr/local/etc/sane.d and start up xsane. In 42bit color mode, set the following variables: Gamma: 2.2 Brightness: 19 Contrast: 8 Here are the modifications I have made to my plustek.conf file. Increasing the posShading to 40 eliminates lines and faded spots, but causes color "latticing" in laser documents. Increasing the gain values to 5 helps remove extreme white spots, while increasing all the gamma values to 5 removes dark areas. lamp warmup is disabled, but this doesn't seem to affect the quality of the scans. If this file doesn't work for you, have a play with ONLY the settings I have just mentioned. If all fails, replace it with your old file. regards, Francis On Sat, 7 Dec 2002 19:53, pascal wrote: > Hi > Thanks for your job. Thanks to you i can use ma hp2200c scanner with my > mandrake 9.0.
