To all that have helped me with the optic pro 600P. As root I could not get
scanner to work at all and could not get the debugger to work I switched to my
normal user and typed in the debug command and scanimage -L and it showed my
scanner was attached and did a scanimage and it scanned but got a bunch
jibberish at the console. Now that it seems to work under normal user how do I
configure xsane so I can see if it scans and sends it to gimp to see if it
worked. once again thank you all for the help I guess you cannot run it under
root since it did not work there for me. but its working under my normal user
is this typical for the installation?

I have run it as both root and a regular user. In most cases you
need to be root to load the pt_drv.o driver. I don't understand
why it didn't work; maybe you could try it again. I use
xscanimage; just start it as "xscanimage plustek" with the driver
loaded and you should be able to do a scan. I have not gotten the
xscanimage plugin to work with gimp, but I understand that the
plugin to gimp does work with xsane. However, I have never used it
so I can't help.

You have contacted the mailing list for the Linux driver for Plustek
scanners. I doubt there are any printed instructions that are not
available
with the downloadable Linux driver source code...

You probably want the company that makes the scanner.

USA site: http://www.plustekusa.com/

I have actually had better luck getting my scanner to work in Linux
than in Windows. The programs I used in Windows had problems
when I scanned images. I had to restart the computer between
every scan. If I didn't the computer would freeze or reboot (as if
I pushed the reset button). This got annoying very fast.

I was very happy when I saw there was a Linux driver. I had some
minor problems after installing the driver. It would only sporadically
work. I wrote to the list, had an answer within a day, tried the
recommendations and it has worked great ever since.

Install SANE from your distribution disk, then go to:

home.t-online.de/home/g-jaeger/plustek.html

download the latest plustek-module tar-ball and check the installation
instructions inside the tar-ball or on the web-page...

We're sorry, but this mailing list is about Plustek drivers for the
GNU/Linux operating system, see
http://www.linux.org/
http://www.gnu.org/
for more information about GNU/Linux operating system.
If you're looking for Windows 95 drivers, and drivers didn't come with
your scanner, then I suggest visiting Plustek's website and looking for
answers there:

Hi,

if you need assistance with the Plustek stuff and that strange
OS called Windoze, use the official Plustek support at
www.plustek.com or www.plustek.de

This list deals only with problems concerning a driver that
let us work with Plustek scanner under Linux...

But AFAIK the OP600P is not supported anymore on
systems > win98...
