hi

i have tried in vain to install my plustek 96000p parport scanner
under debian 2.2. the plustek-howto is not up to date i think, there are
several mismatches in it (and the howto sais it only for 0.35).

i have tried to download sane 1.01 and unpack it to /usr/local/sane, and
then untar the plustek-sane driver to the same dir (the howto mentions
that you should repack the plustek-sane driver, but i find that its packed
ok ?!?). then i checked the makefiles and compiled as
discribed in
the howto. but it ends up in a modprobe error:

wintermute:/usr/local/sane-1.0.1/backend/plustek_driver# make -f Makefile
load
/sbin/modprobe pt_drv || exit 1
modprobe: Can't locate module pt_drv
make: *** [load] Error 1

now what did i miss?

maybe my kernel is bad? i have lp and parport loaded as modules, do i miss
anything? and why cant i use the precompiled debian packages?

best regards

martin

Hi Martin,

I know the HOWTO is old, if I have time, I'll
change it (any volunteers out there? ;-))))))))

Have a look in at the INSTALL file in the plustek_driver
directory. I think this should help.
It's a step by step description.

There's currently one fault - don't use the legal parameter!

Hope this helps
Gerhard

hi gerhard,

my english is not so good, but i will hope you understand me.
i have an plustek 96000p parralel-port-scanner. my system running under SuSE
9.0.
i have download the plustek-module-0_42_9.tar.gz from your website.
my sane-version is 1.0.10.
i have made an directory backend under /usr/share/sane an have to unpack the
archiv in this direktory.
than i have in the direktory plustek_driver "make all" an as root "make
install":

here the result:

# omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver # make install
# mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.4.21-99-default/misc
# install -c -m "644" pt_drv.o /lib/modules/2.4.21-99-default/misc
# /sbin/depmod -a
# omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver #

than i "make load":

omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver # make load
/sbin/modprobe pt_drv || exit 1
rm -f /dev/pt_drv*
omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver #

the lamp on scanner is switching on (hurra!)

than i say: scanimage -L

the result is:

omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver # scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver #

when i say

omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver #scanimage -d plustek:/dev/pt_drv

the scanner is scanning a part of an image!

where is the mistake?

here i have a part from /var/log/messages:

Okt 27 15:52:29 omega su: pam_unix2: session started for user root, service su
Oct 27 15:52:51 omega kernel: pt_drv : driver version 0.42-10

can you help me?

thank you, Peter

Okay, so the driver is loaded. The scanner is recognized - good...

First of all, you need to know, what the backend really does, when you call
scanimage -L, try:
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=20
scanimage -L
and send us this ouptut. I think the problem is your configuration file...
As you are using SuSE, I also expect, that you have two installations on your
box, that might interfere...

Gerhard

when i type

peter@omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver> export SANE DEBUG
PLUSTEK=20
peter@omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver> scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,

peter@omega:/usr/share/sane/backend/plustek_driver>

i am use SuSE 9.0.

Hmmm, something went wrong there:
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK=20
should do the trick

Do also:
export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=255

> sorry, where can i find the output?????

At the console...

I mean the config-file
/etc/sane.d/dll.conf
and/or
/etc/sane.d/plustek.conf

In dll.conf you should find a line like
plustek
if a # is in front of that line, remove it!!

Ciao,
