Hi,

Nine hours and still it isn't working (where did that time go?)

Please advise.

Kernel - 2.4.20
Distro - LFS
Sane - 1.0.9
Driver - plustek-sane-0.45-1

Install went fine.

# sane-find-scanner
<snip>
found USB scanner (vendor=0x07b3, product=0x0001) at /dev/usbscanner
  # Your USB scanner was detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.
</snip>

# scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

I got adventurous and added
{"0x07B3-0x0001-0", &Cap0x07B3_0x0017_0, &Hw0x07B3_0x0017_0, "My OpticPro UT12" },

to backends/plustek-devs.c

reinstalled sane backend

# scanimage -L
[plustek] drvopen()
[plustek] usbDev_open(/dev/usbscanner,0x07B3-0x0001)
[plustek] Vendor ID=0x07B3, Product ID=0x0001
[plustek] usbio_DetectLM983x
[plustek] UIO error
[plustek] This is not a LM9831 or LM9832 chip based scanner.
[plustek] open failed: -1
No scanners were identified. etc

Well maybe expected. Can anyone help???

'Plustek OpticPro UT12' is boldly written on the scanner. And the bed light
is on at all times when plugged in.

Oh, what a waste of time. ;-)

This message is clear, isn't it?

Your scanner has not this chip inside.

This could be a fake, because the "Plustek OpticPro UT12" AFAIK should
work with the LM983x chip, but "Vendor ID=0x07B3, Product ID=0x0001"
suggests you have a 'Plustek OpticPro U12' (without "T") and an
USB-PARALLEL-Bridge, which is not supported.

I have the same scanner and unfortunately he sleeps in the corner. ;-)

Freundlich grüßend,

Erik

Hi!

I have a Plustek OpticPro UT12 scanner and was wondering if it is
supported. I found this on 'http://www.gjaeger.de/scanner/plustek.html':

Unfortunately I happen to have the Product ID 0x0001. Why I wrote this
mail: I'd like to know what "... is not supported and probably will
never be!" means. Is there a specific reason why it will never be supported?

the specific reason is, that these old models use a Plustek specific
parport ASIC inside, which is connected to the USB bus by a parport-to-
USB bridge. In principle it might be possible to change the OpticPro PT12
code to work over the USB bridge and there's also some code that manages
to switch the lights, but I have no time to make all this work...
