Hi,

I installed sane-backends-1.0.14-r2
with scanimage -L my scanner is detected
device `plustek_pp:parport0' is a Plustek
9636T/12000T parallel port flatbed scanner
When i launch xsane-0.93, and try to get a preview
from my scanner, i get " scanner failed ; invalid
argument"
What can i do ?
Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Hi,

please send us the output of:
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK_PP=20 ; scanimage -L

Ciao,

Please use the mailing list!

The output looks good - no problems, can you please retry with xsane:
export SANE_DEBUG_PLUSTEK_PP=20 ; xsane

Here it is :

May be is it a problem of permission...

Hmmpf, yes of course, please set the permissions of /dev/parport0
correctly, I use:
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 99, 0 2003-03-14 14:08 /dev/parport0

That's not what I'm looking for :-(
What kernel are you using? On 2.4, try:
mknod --mode=0666 /dev/parport0 c 99 0

This will create the node, make sure, that ppdev is loaded...

Ciao,
  Gerhard

As xsane worked fine as root, i went to the root
directory and found the two config files
  Noname:Philips675webcam.drc (for my webcam)
and Plustek:9636T_12000T.drc (for my scanner)
i copied them to my /home/.sane/xsane directory
and changed the owner name.
then,
Well, what a strange thing ! with
mknod --mode=0666 /dev/parport0 c 99 0
i got "file already exists"
and i saw the symlink (i did not see it before
!!)/dev/parport0 ---> /dev/parports/0
and
ls -l /dev/parports/0 ............. crw-rw-rw-
  1 root root 99, 0 jan 1 1970 0

so, when i start xsane, it works fine, now !
But.. i don't quite understand all the stuff !

Thank you very much for your help !

Sincerely
