Hello,

my paralell port scanner (Plustek OpticPro 96000P) is not working. The lamp
goes on, but noting else happens. When running scanimage, I get:

./scanimage -d plustek_pp:/dev/parport0 > xx.png

now here is the problem. The memory of the device could not be accessed.
I suggest, as first test to set your parport to SPP mode in the BIOS.
Another test could be to set the parport module parameters correctly, i.e.
options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=none
This seems to be needed esp. on Athlon boards.

Hope this helps,
  Gerhard

Hi Gerhard,

thanks for analysing the problem. I tried out your suggestions (SPP mode and
correct settings for parport_pc), but that didn't help.

Then I installed Win98 und the original plustek driver. And it still didn't
work. So I assume the paralell port built in the mainboard is corrupted.

So I connected the scanner to a PCI parallel port (EX-41011) and now the
scanner is recognised. But, when I scan, the result does not even resemble
the original, so the scan seems corrupted. This is the same in Win98 and in
linux. I attach one of these scans (It is a small part of the scan since this
mailing list doesn't except large files, but that shouldn't matter since the
whole picture looks very similar).

Any Idea?

Markus

I'm not sure if this is relevant. On my 9600, I get reasonable scans but
with very fine alternating cyan and magenta lines much like the
right-lower portion of Markus' png. This occurs on Linux and win98 and
when connected to two different machines. I have changed cables to no
effect. I regretfully assume it is the 9600's hardware failing and not
any of the drivers.

not really. It really seems, that the scanner is broken :( With these parallel port
scanners it might be, that your picture will be corrupted, because of hardware limits.
But here, I guess it's broken. Do you have the chance to check it on another box?
But I think it's probalby cheaper to buy a new one...

Ciao,
Gerhard
