I think so. Scanning greyscale is much faster than scanning full color under
windows.
And in the specs for the E3 ASIC is some stuff which says there're different
color modes.

yes, but the real correction should be done by the scanner in hardware if it
supports it, and not by the frontend which only gets 24Bit data I suppose.
