I use a Colorado Direct. I will like to play with it and Linux ... :)

If you sign the NDA, only you can develop soft using the specs provided by
Primax ?

Is there a better possibility than having the original specs?

Are you going to invent the wheel for a second time?

I'm not trying to re-invent nothing (perhaps only how to live without working).

There are better possibilities, of course. Having the specs is very good (and a big
step). A open group of people working with these specs is very, very good. And
publicity of specs is the best thing, I think.

Hi all,

If the choices Primax are going to give us are too restrictive, then we can
continue as Christian and Marco have been doing ( which is I understand quite
difficult ).

If this is too difficult/slow then there is another possibility for us to
"catch" the protocol used between the PC and the scanner - basically trying
to catch it after it has exited the parallel port :

by either setting up a parallel port on another PC to act as if it
were a peripheral - but I have been told that this is quite
	difficult; or

putting another piece of hardware between the PC and the scanner
which captures messages. I have no experience in the electronics
needed to do this but I have come accross some web pages describing
a reasonably cheap way to do this ( about $20 ):
		http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/kheidens/lptcap/lptcap.htm

Any other suggestions ?

Well, negitiation is in progress. And primax has told us, the source will be
freely available. We´re avaiting the NDA during the next days. Then we´ll be
able to be more specific.

Yes, it is.

Well, but a new Scanner would be available for about $50... (one which is
already supported by SANE ;-)

Have you any idea how the organization of the coding will work if/when
the
Non-Disclosure Agreement will be signed ?

What I mean is that since only a limited number of people can actually
sign then
this limits the number of developers !

Maybe we could get some people to start developing the necessary part of
the
backend for SANE ?
And then simply "plug in" the protocol messages as they are available ?

Thats true, but then sometimes buying a jigsaw and putting it together
is more
of a challenge than just buying a picture 8-)

Let´s see what´s actually in the NDA, and talk about more then.
