primax_scan-0.93 does not switch to EPP mode

However, I get the following error message after port_probe(port) in function epp_on: | ####@####.#### >./primax_scan -l on | parse_options: | lamp: on | dimension: 425x585 pixel | parse_options: switching lamp | | This Port supports not the EPP-Mode | Please activate EPP-Mode or | EPP + ECP-Mode! My AMI-Bios supports two parallel port modes: SPP/EPP and ECP. I've tried both of them with the same result. For SPP/EPP mode port_probe returns a value of 1 and for ECP mode it returns 19. Both values are obviously !(port_feature & 0x300) and the program exits. I am running Kernel 2.2.13 with modular parport support. I tried with and without loading the parport modules before running "primax_scan -l on" but to no avail. After "modprobe parport_pc" there is a message in /var/log/messages: | ####@####.#### >tail /var/log/messages | | [...] anna kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP] when in SPP/EPP mode and | ####@####.#### >tail /var/log/messages | | [...] anna kernel: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,ECP,ECPPS2] when in ECP mode, respectively. It seems to me that the linux parport driver doesn't recognize the EPP capability when in SPP/EPP mode, right? So I desperately switched to ECP mode in the Bios setup, commented out the exit(1) statement in the (!(port_feature & 0x300 )) if-block, rebuilt the program and let primax_scan try to switch to EPP mode: | ####@####.#### >./primax_scan -l on | parse_options: | lamp: on | dimension: 425x585 pixel | parse_options: switching lamp | | This Port supports not the EPP-Mode | Please activate EPP-Mode or | EPP + ECP-Mode! | | :-( | Scanner did not switch to EPP mode.....not compatible? That's where a long story ends. I feel tempted to give up unless there is anybody out there who can give me some advice on how to proceed. Do I have to wait for SPP support and let the scanner get covered in dust in the meantime? Thanks in advance. Juergen PS: I have also unplugged my printer which is usually connected to the pass through of the scanner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
