Thanks to all the good advise i managed to get the files and do a configure and
a make. smooth sailing so far.
After the make install i ran primax_server and got stuck with a:

bash-2.04# primax_server
server_fd = 3
checking fd: 3
data_avail on fd 3 timeout 3
.checking fd: 3
data_avail on fd 3 timeout 3
.checking fd: 3
data_avail on fd 3 timeout 3
.checking fd: 3
data_avail on fd 3 timeout 3

Then i ran xsane and it said "no devices available"

Is primax_server suposed to generate the 'data_avail' message ?
Must i run xsane with an argument? (eg xsane /dev/scanner ?)

Hope that someone can help me out.

Kind regards,
@

PS primax_scan is working just fine, so hardware probs seems unlikely.

PPS Christian good luck with your exams !

This is a good news ;-)

And this is also a good news.
Did you start the server as root?
Okay, w short explanation of this message:
the server opens two named pipes in /tmp. Then it waits until a client (like
Xsane) connects to these pipes. But there is also a planned feature for
deferred turning off of the scanner lamp. For this the server must not block
until the client connects but periocally unblock and test if it's time to
switch the lamp off. Actually this is not done but a message is written.
So if you see this message, you know that the server is still alive.

It seems that your the sane libaries are not installed in the correct path?
Check where the other sane libs are and install them there.

Bye

It does create the two pipes, how do i tell xsane to use these pipes?
( xsane /tmp/client_px.fifo doesn't work )

Do you have any suggestions on where the libraries SHOULD be?
I upgraded to suse7.0 and they might have choosen another dir to place the libs.
do you now a name of one of the libraries? i can do a find on it to see where it
is hiding.

Kind regards,
@
